Coupa Named a “Challenger” in Gartner® 2022 Magic Quadrant™ for Supply Chain Planning Solutions (2023)

Coupa named as"Challenger” in its Magic Quadrant for Supply Chain Planning

In the past two years, companies have experienced supply chain challenges on a level never seen.

Facility shutdowns, material shortages, and labor challenges have all occurred simultaneously while demand patterns have become highly unpredictable, compounding the pressures supply chain leaders also face with rising costs and logistics bottlenecks.

Companies that used to optimize supply chains primarily for cost, service, and inventory now must look at how supply chain planning processes can instill more resilience (to prepare for future disruptions) and sustainability (to cater to growing ESG mandates).

Against this backdrop, we’re proud to announce that Gartner -for the first time! -has named Coupa as a "Challenger” in its Magic Quadrant for Supply Chain Planning.

We believe this is due to our focus on enabling continuous supply chain design (allowing for faster course corrections when facing disruptions).

Our forward-thinking solutions offer organizations the ability to actively design their supply chains with market conditions in mind and operationalize the resulting decisions to face today’s complex challenges and enable resiliency on top of cost-service-inventory tradeoffs.

The 2022 Gartner Magic Quadrant for Supply Chain Planning Report helps supply chain technology leaders when evaluating and selecting software tools to enable their supply chain planning maturity progression.

The report evaluated 22 vendors based on their ability to execute and the completeness of their vision, and we’re proud to be recognized as a Challenger.

Coupa’s Approach: Improving Decision Making with Continuous Design

Organizations have historically managed Supply Chain Planning (SCP) processes on static assumptions about flows, nodes, and policies. While these assumptions worked well in the past, they’re no longer adequate in today’s complex and fast-paced environment. Complexity is raising both cost and risk; companies need to test their supply chain policies and assumptions more dynamically and rapidly reconfigure their supply networks.

Complex global supply chains now call for multi-tier planning on the fly. By using continuous design rather than episodic design, Coupa augments the value of traditional supply chain planning.

Our advanced AI capabilities empower organizations to enhance demand modeling and strategic network design while optimizing inventory, production, and transportation. This reduces risk, improves resilience, and helps them turn supply chain challenges into a competitive advantage. Our modeling technologies enable decision-makers to test their scenarios before execution, achieving the desired balance of risk and reward.

Coupa’s Approach: Smarter Business Spend Management (BSM) Through Supply Chain Optimization

Supply chain direct material, labor, and distribution costs are a major portion of business spend for companies. Organizations need to enable greater collaboration between supply chain, procurement, and finance teams to align decision-making and control spend.

However, too many organizations still rely on fragmented legacy systems that fail to support this modern level of collaboration and speed from the decision to execution. They need new technologies that align strategic inputs and requirements across different functional areas.

A key ingredient for smart supply chain design and planning is high-quality operational data and a granular digital twin. Decisions made using supply chain design and planning are enriched by high-quality data from purchasing, finance, and the supplier network. For example, our Supply Chain Design-to-Source suite synergy serves as a critical link to bridge Supply Chain Design & Planning and Sourcing Optimization. As a result, business spend is optimized while also meeting customer service requirements.
